How Much Does Plant Hire Cost in Brisbane?
Look it varies. A mini excavator on dry hire is obviously going to be way less than a 20 tonner. We try to keep our plant hire rates pretty competitive — we know there’s plenty of other hire companies around Brisbane so we’re not trying to take the piss with pricing.
We do daily, weekly and monthly rates. Most blokes go for weekly because it works out better value than paying daily and you don’t feel rushed trying to get everything done in 8 hours. Monthly is the cheapest per-day rate if you know you’ll need the machine for a while. Delivery and pickup is usually included for anywhere in the Brisbane metro but if you’re out past Ipswich or up past Caboolture there might be a small delivery charge.
Fuel’s on you for dry hire by the way. We’ll drop the machine off full and we expect it back full. Pretty standard arrangement across the industry.

Dry Hire or Wet Hire — Which One Do You Actually Need?
People ask us this all the time so here’s the simple version. Dry hire = machine only, you run it. Wet hire = machine plus our operator. That’s it.
If you’ve got operators on your payroll already and you just need more machines then dry hire is the obvious choice. It’s cheaper because your not paying for our bloke to sit in the cab. But if you don’t have anyone who can actually run an excavator safely (and legally) then wet hire is the way to go. Don’t try and save money by putting someone unqualified in the seat — that never ends well.
Some guys start with dry hire and then realise they actually want an operator, which is fine. We can switch you over to wet hire mid-project no dramas. Flexibility is kind of our thing.
Common Questions We Get About Dry Hire
What tickets does my operator need?
VOC (Verification of Competency) for the machine class they’re operating, plus a white card. If they’re going on a commercial site you’ll probably need public liability insurance sorted as well. We can talk you through it when you call.
Do you drop the machine off or do I pick it up?
We deliver and pick up. It comes on a float truck to your site. Most of the time delivery is included in the price for Brisbane metro areas. We don’t expect you to come and collect a 14 tonne excavator yourself haha.
What if it breaks down on my site?
If it’s a genuine mechanical fault and not something caused by misuse then we’ll sort it out. Either send a mechanic or swap the machine out. We try to minimise any downtime because we know time is money on site.
Can I keep it longer than originally planned?
Yeah usually. Just give us a ring before your hire period ends and we can extend it. Obviously depends on whether someone else has booked that particular machine after you but 9 times out of 10 it’s not an issue.
